Closing material cycles while increasing transparency at the same time

Jokey supports the circular economy with EN 15343 certification
The increasing legal obligations and requirements of the bottling industry require harmonized and verifiable processing procedures to ensure consistent traceability and the transparent use of recycled materials. For example, the Spanish plastics tax requires the certification of recycled plastics in accordance with EN 15343:2008 by an accredited certification body. As a leading company for sustainable plastic packaging, Jokey is convinced that appropriate certifications promote the transparent use of recycled plastic in new products and reduce dependence on fossil materials.
Verified recycled alternatives
After expanding its product portfolio to include mass-balanced products in 2021, Jokey is now creating the conditions for audited physical traceability for mechanical recyclates. At the same time, the origin of pre- and post-consumer material is verified in product information. Jokey is thus having its controlled mixing model certified, which enables reliable verification of the use of recycled plastics in products and legally compliant indication of the proportion of recycled material.
The ISCC PLUS mass balance approach already allows Jokey to make a contribution to reducing the amount of fossil-based plastics by using certified material in production.
“The targets for recyclate quotas are clearly defined for the future. We are proud that our European plants are now certified according to the EN 15343 standard in addition to the ISCC PLUS standard. With the chosen approaches, we can now offer our customers a wide range of verified recyclate alternatives and certified products and thus jointly make an important contribution to reducing CO2 emissions,” says Michael Schmidt, CPO of the Jokey Group.
