Recycled packaging - good for the environment
Against this backdrop, we are seeing a number of our customers advance their solutions to the overuse of plastic packaging and seek out more sustainable alternatives. One such customer is Tarmac, the UK’s leading sustainable construction and building products business.
The Jokey Eco Concept 2.0 with its integral sustainability approach was of particular interest to Tarmac and has allowed Tarmac to reduce its use of virgin plastics by substituting them with more sustainable post-consumer recyclates (PCR). It was the perfect partnership as Jokey stands for 30 years of experience in processing PCRs.
Ryan Lloyd, Assistant Category Manager, at Tarmac said: “At Tarmac, we are committed to minimising our environmental impact. We are working with our partners throughout the supply chain to reduce waste, plastic consumption, and the use of virgin plastics. Working with Jokey, we were able to explore ways in which we could offer the DIY consumer a packaging product that is both more sustainable while remaining safe, robust and weatherproof.”
To develop the packaging for the specific requirements of the Tarmac building material products, Tarmac product managers used the extensive range of Jokey services.
First, the Jokey experts provided advice on suitable material compositions and processing technologies, as well as promotionally effective finishes.
The development process also included digital 3D renderings samples and internal testing procedures to optimise the material characteristics.
"Tarmac sought to reduce their CO2 emissions by using PCR containers" sums up Nick Sutton, U.K. Sales Manager at Jokey. The switch to PCR packaging is now complete. "All in all, the changeover process has been a PCR success story," affirms Nick Sutton.
