Jokey UK: New plant in Great Britain starts production
Jokey UK has the latest technical standards, high performance and energy efficiency. On the almost 24,000 square metre factory site in Corby, an industrial town in the north of the county of Northhamptonshire, four newly built silos rise up, visible from afar. Next to them are the newly commissioned production halls, which take up about half of the total area. For their completion, existing disused production facilities on the acquired site were converted and modernised to create space for an initial double-digit number of injection moulding machines as well as for cranes and mixing equipment. By integrating existing buildings, construction times could be shortened and valuable resources saved. After all, compared to a new building, a conversion consumes significantly less building materials and fossil fuels, such as for their production and transport, due to the use of already existing "grey energy". The lower energy consumption also contributes to keeping CO2 emissions low.
Official opening ceremony planned for the third quarter of 2024
Jokey UK produces injection-moulded packaging products for the local UK market. The production capacities are to be adapted to customer requirements and gradually expanded. The new plant is strategically located and well connected to major transport routes due to existing infrastructure, with proximity to Birmingham and London airports. In addition, a large proportion of existing British Jokey customers are located within a catchment area of just under 250 kilometres.
Jokey continues on course for growth and sustainability
"The UK is an important sales market for Jokey," affirms Dennis Lieth, Managing Director at Jokey UK."By investing in our own production site, we can, on the one hand, respond even better to the needs of our British customers than before and, on the other hand, not only strengthen but expand our market position locally."Supply chains would also be significantly shortened, as long transport routes from mainland Europe would be eliminated in future. The Jokey Group has invested a total of around 20 million euros in the construction of the new plant in Willowbrook, North Industrial Estate in Corby. The high energy efficiency of the facilities as well as the shortened transport routes contribute to further reducing the CO2 footprint in production and the supply chain. This step is an important component of the Jokey sustainability course, which pursues the goal of achieving the 1.5 degree target of the Paris Climate Agreement in the long term. With the Jokey Eco Concept 3.0, the Jokey Group has committed itself, among other things, to the highest energy and resource efficiency in all 16 plants.
"We have achieved our ambitious goal of starting production in only 11 months of conversion time after purchasing the property in Corby," Thomas Becker, COO of the Jokey Group, is pleased to say."The realisation of this difficult task was possible above all thanks to the dedicated commitment of the entire Jokey UK team under the leadership of our operations manager at the Gummersbach plant, Frank Diesterbeck and our project manager Pia Linne. The start of production in the UK is a positive signal for our British customers."
