Jokey starts the new training year with 24 trainees

In August, 24 trainees began their training at the Jokey Group, 18 of them at the Jokey plants in the Oberbergischer Kreis and 6 at the Jokey plant in Sohland. There is a wide range of apprenticeships, including toolmakers, commercial workers and IT specialists.

Two exciting introductory days awaited the young trainees. After being welcomed by members  of the management, the human resources and training department, the young people got to know their new employer by presentations, company tours, initial training sessions and joint discussion rounds. The agenda included topics such as occupational safety, hygiene standards and data protection as well as the sustainability of plastic packaging.

The second day was entirely focused on getting to know each other. Under the motto "Sensitizing for the team" two trainers created a varied workshop for the new trainees. The aim was to sensitize them to working in a team with their future colleagues through group exercises, to look at their own role and to network with the other trainees.

"Especially the first days in the new working environment are often associated with a lot of uncertainty for the young trainees," says Heike Schuy, personnel developer at Jokey. "As an internationally operating family business, we are characterized by the idea of community and open and multicultural cooperation. We want to convey the team spirit of the Jokey world to everyone who joins us right from the start, so that they quickly feel a sense of belonging.

As one of the largest employers in the region, Jokey provides training in a total of 12 professions in Oberberg. They are divided into technical, commercial and IT professions. "At Jokey, training, further education and cross-functional cooperation are important building blocks for a forward-looking orientation", emphasizes Peter Dörmbach, Chief Financial Officer and Head of Human Resources at the Jokey Group. "We look forward to working with young employees who will find a supportive environment with flat hierarchies and a wide range of career opportunities that encourages them to take responsibility for their own work. Through structured training, we gain good practitioners with sound theoretical knowledge and will thus be able to cover the demand for skilled workers mainly internally in the future as well".

For their high quality of training, the three Jokey plants in the Oberbergischer Kreis have already received the "Excellent Training Company" seal of approval several times, the last time in April 2020.
