Jokey joins the PREVENT Waste Alliance initiative

The Jokey Group has joined the PREVENT Waste Alliance, an Initiative for expanding the recycling economy worldwide. With this step, the company further develops its Jokey Eco Concept and actively contributes to ensuring that used packaging does not end up in the environment, but that its valuable raw materials are recycled

The PREVENT Waste Alliance has been launched in May 2019 by more than 30 organisations from business, science, civil society and public institutions in Germany. The members intend to actively promote the development of a functioning waste and recycling industry worldwide by means of exchange and international cooperation.

Jokey is thus expanding its continuing dialogue on issues such as resource responsibility, climate protection and marine litter with industry associations, institutions and interest groups, at an international level too. As one of the leading manufacturers of plastic packaging, Jokey has already been active in 15 countries. Michael Schmitz, Head of Marketing and Communication, emphasises that it is important to use this influence. „Thus, we are rounding off our Eco Concept by actively taking over product responsibility. We want to use our expert knowledge wherever sustainability can be designed and improved throughout the entire value chain. This can only succeed if we cooperate with other responsible players from industry, trade and politics to promote the development of global collection systems with the aim of closed material cycles.”

Jokey - pioneer in sustainable packaging

Already since the early 1990s, Jokey has been committed to increase public awareness of the resource value of used plastic packaging. Since then, the company has been processing secondary raw materials from post-consumer collections into new packaging for non-food industries. Initiatives such as ‘Grey is the new green’, ‘Simplicity makes the value’ and membership of the RAL Quality Assurance Association for Recyclates from Household Recycling Collections have set effective publicity signals in recent years and raised awareness for sustainable use of plastic as a valuable raw material.

Michael Schmitz sums up that the number of people using secondary raw materials in the non-food industry is fortunately rising steadily. "We believe that the approach of the Prevent Waste initiative is therefore exactly the right one for our increased commitment to sustainability. In view of the worldwide development of consumption and production, it is an urgent task to further strengthen resource protection. We hope that, as the result of joint efforts, the earth's current polluting waste hotspots will be history in a few years' time.”
