Jokey is one step ahead in hygiene and food safety
Jokey Plastik Gummersbach as first company to be certified by TÜV Rheinland in accordance with new hygiene standards

Jokey Plastik Gummersbach GmbH has obtained DIN EN 15593:2008 certification. This guarantees customers and business partners that Jokey products are of a consistently high hygienic quality. The “Management of hygiene in the production of packaging for foodstuffs” standard was drawn up by the European Committee for Standardization with the aim of enhancing food safety. It is recognised worldwide. Jokey is the first company to be certified by TÜV Rheinland in accordance with the new standard, thus confirming its pioneering role within the packaging industry.
The entire food supply chain is subject to food safety and hygiene standards to be met not only by suppliers of raw materials, foodstuffs and animal feed, but also by suppliers of packaging and process materials. Flawless hygiene is extremely important in this area and is not achieved incidentally but rather as the result of systematic and comprehensive management processes – especially within packaging.
The DIN EN 15593 standard, published in May 2008, provides a uniform basis for manufacturers of food packaging that encompasses the entire requirements of European food producers and retailers. It essentially conforms to the British BRC/IoP standard for which certification had already been acquired by the Jokey plants at Wipperfürth, Stüttem and Sohland in Germany as well as at Labourse in France.
The strategic decision by Jokey Plastik Gummersbach GmbH to introduce a quality management system for its injection moulding processes was motivated by the company’s own standards as well as its wish to increase customer confidence by achieving flawless hygienic packaging production. In order to identify optimisation potential, existing quality standards were scrutinised and operational procedures for contamination control and personnel hygiene were checked. The assessment of the implemented processes and structures by an external auditor from TÜV Rheinland demonstrated that the food safety system conforms to and functions in accordance with the standard’s strict requirements. The certificate has initially been awarded for a period of three years, after which it can be renewed.
Certification in accordance with the hygiene standard underlines Jokey’s status as market leader in the food packaging industry and further sets it apart from its competitors. For Jokey’s partners and customers this is yet more proof of the packaging specialist’s commitment to quality.
