Jokey makes a strong showing at the “Entrepreneur of the Year” awards
The packaging specialists from Wipperfürth place among the top 3 finalists for 2009 in the “Industrial” category

Passionate, innovative and successful: Jokey Plastik Wipperfürth GmbH and its managing directors Herbert and Werner Kemmerich have set themselves apart from the competition in this year’s “Entrepreneur of the Year” awards. Following a multi-stage elimination process, the family enterprise made it to the final round of 77 from a total of 300 nominees at the awards ceremony in Frankfurt last Friday, even placing among the final three in the “Industrial” category. This strong showing demonstrates Jokey’s lofty status among Germany’s most dedicated and successful companies.
Presented by Ernst & Young, the leading tax consultancy in the German market, the “Entrepreneur of the Year” awards honour outstanding entrepreneurial achievements and enjoy a high standing among the public in general and in particular among business circles. The award is given to entrepreneurs whose initiative, vision and innovation has led to job creation and sustainable growth and whose personal commitment and willingness to assume risk have set a positive example for German businesses. This coveted award is sponsored by well-known partners such as BMW, American Express, DZ BANK, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Manager Magazin and is granted by Ernst & Young in the categories Industry, Trade, Services, Information and Communications Technology/Media as well as Start-ups. The year 2009 marks the 13th presentation of the awards in Germany.
Among the high-profile guests at the gala awards ceremony at Frankfurt’s Alter Oper, Herbert and Werner Kemmerich faced an independent jury composed of eminent entrepreneurs and scientists such as Prof. Dr. (hon.) Lothar Späth, Minister President (retired) and Senior Advisor at Merrill Lynch.
Following several nominations over the years and a final round placing in 2002, the packing specialists from Wipperfürth were at the centre of attention with their outstanding finish in the 2009 “Entrepreneur of the Year” awards, making a name for themselves as a medium-sized German company that brings forth new business ideas while combining entrepreneurial activity with social responsibility. “It is a great honour for us to be selected as one of the three most dedicated and successful industrial companies”, says Herbert Kemmerich. “This confirms that we are on the right path”. Werner Kemmerich is particularly excited about two components for which they were honoured: “The adherence to our core principles, philosophy and vision did not hinder our success in business; rather it was very much a positive influencing factor!”
